In Agrigento, the Carthaginian soldiers he commanded besieged the city to take revenge for Greek attacks on the Punic colonies in Sicily. He is often confused with Hannibal Barca, another Carthaginian leader, who went down in history for the searing defeats inflicted on the Roman army during the Second Punic War (218-210 BC), when he invaded Italy by marching from Spain through the Pyrenees and the Alps.
