The Loggia dei mercanti area is located in the Castellamare district, formerly known as Amalfitania. Since the Arab period, it was a privileged place for merchants, also due to its proximity to the Cala landing place. The urban fabric was particularly lively: Pisans, Genoese, Catalans, Amalfitans, as well as people from the east, had numerous shops, taverns and inns in the area.
