Marco Antonio d’Aprile was a master marble worker from Palermo who, as specified in the contract of 6 September 1595, was commissioned by Vicar General Silvio Tinti to work on the decoration and marble works of the Chapel of San Castrense, together with the Florentine master Pietro Bacchiotta. The two worked on the flooring, sculptures, balustrades and altar steps. We know the names of the two artist-sculptors, however, we don’t know the name of the architect who, at the behest of Archbishop Ludovico II de Torres, designed the entire chapel dedicated to the North African bishop.
