Angelo Italia, a Sicilian architect, was born in Licata in the province of Agrigento on 8 May 1628. He was trained at his father’s workshop and in architectural essays, thanks to which he learned the “modern style” of Roman origin.
In 1671 he took his priestly vows in Messina, at the Jesuit order.
A series of works followed throughout Sicily. His designs show a preference for central plan churches.
In 1693 after the earthquake he worked on the reconstruction. He worked on the reorganisation of various cities including Noto and Avola with its hexagonal plan.
In Catania he participated in the construction of the Jesuit complex. He died on 5 May 1700 in Palermo.
