In the Domitio scene, the Virgin Mary, wearing a golden halo, lies on the funeral bed with her hands crossed on her chest, her head bowed and her eyes closed. In a crescendo of pain, she is surrounded by the apostles, including Peter with the thurible in his hands and John, distressed and bent over her body, and by people in despair. Paul, on the other hand, on the far right of the representation, kisses her feet. Christ stands in the centre, with his nimbed halo as he holds up the Virgin’s soul to heaven. The latter is represented as an infant wrapped in narrow bands that look like a shroud. A pair of angels hovers in the sky, ready to welcome her.
