Giacalone worked on the most demanding phase of the construction of Via Toledo (today Via Vittorio Emanuele) and in the Porta Nuova construction site.
His renown as a great architect is confirmed by other important works in the island’s capital, the construction of the convents of San Domenico and Santa Cita, and the modernisation and transformation of medieval churches such as the Basilica of San Francesco (St. Francis) and the church of Sant’Antonio (St. Anthony).
