Romanesque is an artistic period that developed in the Middle Ages, from the end of the 10th century until the middle of the 12th century, i.e. until the emergence of Gothic art. The Romanesque period saw a revival of monumental sculpture work and architecture. Typical Romanesque features are the thickness of the walls, the density of the structures, the use of cross vaults and the adoption of a basilica layout in the form of a Latin cross.
