In the Garden of Kolymbetra, in addition to the citrus fruits that sweeten the surroundings with their scent, there are thousand-year-old olive trees.
These evergreen plants belong to the Oleaceae family and are particularly good at standing the test of time.
They even have the ability to regenerate their branches, trunk and foliage. It is no wonder then that because of their age, the olive trees of the Kolymbetra are named the Patriarchs of the Valley!
These plants are now hundreds or even thousands of years old, and their gnarled trunks are silent witnesses to the day-to-day events of history.
