Military topographer and certified aeroplane observer.
After the Second World War, he pursued his career at the IGM (Italian Military Geographic Institute). He specialised in aerial photography, first for military then for archaeological purposes. He took on a teaching post in Topography of Ancient Italy in 1967.
Member of countless archaeological committees, in 1970, he was appointed professor then full professor at the University of Genoa, professor of Archaeological Aerotopography, before concluding his career at the University of Pisa.
