One comparison that can be traced back to the mosaic of the Villa del Casale can be found in a precious collection of silverware, the Seuso Treasure.
One object in particular shows a scene very similar to the one depicted in the mosaic of the “small hunt”. It is a silver plate in which are narrated, on five registers, different types of hunting trips, similar to those present in the ornate mosaic of the late antiquity Sicilian residence while, in the centre, the representation of the outdoor breakfast reappears.
The presence of a fishing scene and a female figure participating in the banquet are the only distinguishing features.
The plate, dating back to the second half of the 4th century AD, attests to how the iconographic models used in Piazza Armerina were still used in later times.
