The worship of St. Paul in Palazzolo Acreide has ancient origins, perhaps prior to his election as patron saint of the town in 1688. He replaced the Virgin Hodegetria worshipped in the church of San Sebastiano.
This spectacular religious feast lasts three days and involves the entire country.
The three days of celebration take place with specific ceremonies, from the flag-throwers’ procession, with the scents of lavender and votive offerings, to the display of the saint’s relics held at the top of the church steps by the worshippers, all of which is made even more spectacular by fireworks.
