The Scalinata di Santa Maria del Monte (Staircase of St. Mary of the Mountain) is by nature a very scenic architectural element within the city of Caltagirone. Throughout May, on the occasion of the Infiorata for the festivities of the Madonna dei Conadomini, it can be seen completely adorned with thousands of flowers decorated with imaginative designs that make it even more spectacular. But the wonder does not end here; in fact, between 24th and 25th July, the staircase is illuminated by coppi, small tea lights, which are lit to celebrate the feast of the city’s patron saint, St. James; it is also illuminated between 14th and 15th August in honour of the Madonna del Ponte.
