The precious glazed terracotta Nativity, from the church of Santa Maria della Stella la Vetere (St. Mary of the Star) located on the outskirts of the town of Militello, remained intact after the great earthquake.
Commissioned in 1487 by the Lord of Militello Antonio Pietro Barresi, created by the Florentine workshop of Andrea della Robbia, the Nativity is an artistic product of exceptional workmanship, used by local potters as a reference.
During a recent restoration, an attempt was made to emphasise the beauty of the narration of the life of Christ, depicted on 80 panels modelled in high relief.
