At the end of a large corridor in the north wing of the monastery we find the refectory, where the monks ate their daily meal, an oval room surmounted by a large vault painted by the Catanese painter Giuseppe Piparo and now the seat of the Aula Magna (great hall) of the University of Catania. The room is totally pervaded by light from the large windows placed halfway between the perimeter walls and the vault, creating the lunettes, i.e. the part of the wall at the base of the vault with a sail-like shape.
The main and secondary entrances have worked stone cornices.
The gaze is also captured by the highly colourful floor, a reproduction of the original, though still very impressive.
